Sure, most of us dance our asses off now and again and there are times when we allow music to touch us but it is mostly when no one’s watching. If you want to test the true power of music, you should watch how a child reacts while listening to it. Still uninhibited by social norms, children will not restrain themselves from shouting, applauding, or even shedding a tear when a tune really touches them. And if its funk they’re listening to, you can bet they are going to dance!
Further proof comes in a video that has racked almost 7 million hits on Youtube in just over a week since it was posted. In it, a little girl called Maddie is filmed as she is listening to Mark Ronson’s UpTown Funk! At first, the girl listens intently, then she starts slowly moving her head to the rhythm, only to completely lose it when the beat drops.
The track which features Bruno Mars is the second best selling single of 2015 and one of the best-selling of all time. It spent four consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and it won two Grammys, including Record of the Year.
And Maddie seems to love the song’ tribute to 1980s funk, as the video posted by her uncle demonstrates. Wait until she’s a few years older and she discovers Prince, James Brown and Marvin Gaye!
