Vicks VapoRub is a mentholated topical ointment which has become synonymous with cough suppression by applying it on the chest, back and throat or on muscles and joints for minor aches and pains. There are, however, numerous other departments in which Vicks can be used, such as cosmetics, home improvement, ear ache, and more.

1. Aromatherapy

Why apply VapoRub strictly to your nose when you can freshen your living space with it? If you have a humidifier, add some VapoRub so it circulates throughout the room – this is a great way of preventing congestion instead of treating it.

Soothing sore muscles

If you went a bit too hard in your workout class, applying some Vicks to your muscles after exercising is a good way to ease both soreness and inflammation, as well as helping you nurture yourself back to fitness.

2. Fixing squeaky door hinges

Having a squeaky door hinge can be a real annoyance. Thankfully, Vicks’ magical properties can help remedy this issue as well: rubbing a little on the door hinge should be enough to do the trick. This is because the substance contains petroleum jelly (or Vaseline) which should stop the squeaking.

3. Easing earaches

If you are experiencing an earache, place a cotton ball with some VapoRub on it in the cup of your ear. It won’t treat the ache but it should ease the pain.

4. Fuller lips

If you want fuller, softer lips, try adding a bit of VapoRub. One of its ingredients is menthol which is a natural lip plumper.

5. Covering up bad smells

One of VapoRub’s most defining qualities is its overwhelming smell, so its success in battling unwanted smells is a given.

6. Toe fungus

Studies have concluded that one of the ointment’s ingredients, thymol, is effective at treating toenail fungus. Simply wash and dry your feet before thoroughly applying some Vicks to the affected area.

7. Soothing a tennis elbow

If you find your elbow throbbing, rub some Vicks onto it to soothe the pain and have you back on the tennis field in no time.

8. Softening heels

Cracked feet are many people’s Achilles heel, but there is actually no need to spend a lot of money on unnecessary products and consultations to soften them. By rubbing Vicks on your heels at night and then slipping on soft socks to seal in its moisturizing contents, your heels will smoothen up faster than you would expect.

9. A DIY shower bomb

By mixing together Vicks with baking soda and water, you can create a shower bomb that will make your baths even more soothing. This is an especially effective way of getting instant relief when battling a cold.

10. Getting rid of headaches

Just rub a few drops of VapoRub into your temples and massage the area.

11. Getting rid of stretch marks

This ointment is practically a ‘magic eraser’ for stretch marks and loosened skin after giving birth.
