Being A Victoria’s Secret Model Is Different From Being A Victoria’s Secret Angel

Did you know that not all Victoria’s Secret models are Angels, and actually there is a major difference between the two. The truth is these ladies have special contracts with the largest American retailer of women’s lingerie and they are the ones who are faces of the brand.

And according to Victoria Secret’s website, there are 14 women in the world right now who are official Angels.

At the last Victoria Secret Fashion Show, there were 61 models, but only certain models such as Lais Ribeiro or Inés Rivero are actually Angels. So what makes them Angels? Apparently, they have special contracts and special obligations that other models don’t. Also, they need to stay dedicated to the brand.

These obligations cannot be shared with the public, but when model Doutzen Kroes left Victoria Secret, Ed Razek — chief marketing officer of the brand, shared an Instagram post that he captioned: “Doutzen had a lucrative opportunity in Europe and it would have conflicted with her VS obligations. So, at her agency’s request, we released her from the contract. There was no conflict. No animosity.”

When Miranda Kerr confirmed she’s no longer a Victoria’s Secret Angel she told the Sydney Morning Herald, that this job is very time-consuming: “It’s three months at bare minimum,” And these Angels are missing other work opportunities in this period.

Other Angels like Karlie Kloss also left the brand for other opportunities, such as studying or modeling for other agencies. And even though, these models are asked to make big sacrifices they get paid a lot. Eleven of the 17 women on Forbes’ list for The Highest Paid Models 2016 have been Victoria’s Secret Angels.

Iconic models like Gisele Bündchen who was one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels from 2000 until 2007, is among the highest-paid models in the world. The 37-year-old supermodel finished last year with $30.5 million. Others, like Adriana Lima who has been Victoria’s Secret Angel since 1999 earned $10.5 million last year.

And even though that is a lot of money the Angels used to get paid significantly more in the past. In 2015, a source told Page Six that “Older contracts like Alessandra Ambrosio used to be in the millions, now they’re like $100,00.”

If you want to walk amongst the likes of Adriana Lima and Lily Aldridge it won’t happen overnight. There isn’t any specific secret formula to get the Angel contract. Supermodel Elsa Hosk disclosed in her VS All Access video that she first started working for PINK – the youthful sister brand of Victoria’s Secret. “I was on every single shoot with PINK for about three years,” she said.

In 2015, Elsa Hosk joined the Victoria’s Secret team “Becoming an Angel means you are officially part of the family of Victoria’s Secret. And you are a spokesperson for the whole brand, and that is such a cool thing because it’s one of the biggest, most amazing brands in the world,” Hosk said in the video.

Models like Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner walk the Victoria Secret Runway but they are not Angels. Also, if a Victoria Secret model wears wings it doesn’t automatically means she is an Angel.
