Five-year-old Sophia is the same as every girl of her age at first glance. She’s got a huge smile on her face and she is very smart, but not everyone knows that she is, in fact, a real fighter. Sophia Chiappalone from Connecticut, USA was born with a genetic heart defect and wasn’t expected to live past 2 years old. Sophia survived against all odds, and here she is now, waiting for her fourth heart surgery to be performed in January next year. But this time, she had a special wish, and it came true. Sophia wanted to have a dream wedding and “marry” her best friend, Hunter. Her relatives decide to throw a “wedding” photo shoot for them and the pictures are adorable. Here are some of the photos compiled by BoredPanda.

Sophia was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia. This is a genetic heart defect involving four different issues and she was diagnozed shortly after her birth. Sophia’s mother, Kristy Somerset-Chiappalone, started the “Sophia Elyssa Chiappalone the beautiful baby with a broken heart” Facebook page to help her. She explained that her daughter’s case is considered severe and will require several open-heart procedures before it is completely repaired. It is also believed that the surgeries can shorten her lifespan and that she might need a heart and lung transplant in the future.

Her genetic heart defect did not allow her to lead a normal life, like all the other kids.
