Body transformations are always possible when there is great dedication and a desire to do your best. It was back in 2012 when Christine Carlos was at the beach, struggling to play with her daughter. At the time, she felt huge and “lethargic” at 225 pounds and it was then that she decided to transform her life for the sake of herself and her child. She lost 100 pounds in just one year and her story might inspire you to do the same!
“I was getting too big and lethargic,” Christine told POPSUGAR while looking back on that fateful day five years later. “I wanted to be in good condition for my growing child. I felt like I needed to be in control of myself and do it for my child as well,” she added.
It was that day that motivated her to shed 100 pounds off her body in the course of a single year. She began by making minor alterations to her diet and exercise routines. Then, she went on to something bigger.
“I started slow by changing some habits little by little,” she explained to the media. She also noted that she got motivated by reading health magazines and did research about weight loss. Christine swapped fried and processed foods for vegetables and ate minimal carbs. Here is what her menu looked like each day.
Breakfast: oatmeal and eggs
Lunch: salad with homemade vinaigrette
Dinner: fish and vegetables
Once a week, she had a cheat meal to satisfy her cravings. Her personal favorite was a burger and sweet potato fries. Yummy!
Christine was also consuming plenty of water. She drank an entire gallon per day. Some days, she had trouble finishing the gallon of water and she would add some flavor to it, but always a calorie-free one.
Apart from her diet, she changed her exercise habits as well. She started using the treadmill in her basement for 45 minutes of cardio six days per week. She “mostly walk[ed] because of my size, and I eventually started jogging as I progressed,” she told POPSUGAR. As time went by, she joined a gym and started exercising there, too.
By July 2013, Christine had 100 pounds less. But she didn’t stop there. She actually wanted to enter a bikini competition. “I thought it would be great to set another goal and push myself further,” she said, adding that she wanted to “get out of her shell.” For that purpose, she hired a coach who helped her train with weights and plan out her diet. “Weightlifting accelerated my weight loss even more and really reshaped my body,” she revealed.
Christine performed in bikini competitions for two years and has since loosened up on her former diet restrictions. Nowadays, she does weightlifting, training with weights five days each week and only doing 30 minutes of cardio three days per week. Regarding her food intake, Christine’s diet contains more nourishing foods now — “lots of proteins, green vegetables, complex carbs, and healthy fats” — without depriving herself.
Since taking a break from competition training, Christine has gained 15 pounds back. However, she is very content with her progress and now weighs about 140 pounds. Here is her advice to people who want to transform their bodies: “Take it day by day. Don’t think about the long-term and just focus on what you need to do at the moment, because if you focus on how you want to look, you’ll easily get discouraged,” she said.
