The Wonder Woman movie hits theaters this month and we must say that it’s the perfect blockbuster to kick off the summer movie season. Until now, superheroes have been dominated by male leads so it’s finally the time where a strong female characters steps in. Below we have some interesting facts about the movie that you should know.
Wonder Woman is played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot. Her character is a 5000-year-old Amazonian warrior named Diana Prince. This is Gadot’s second time portraying Wonder Woman and the first time to receive top-billing as an actress.
The character first appeared as a superhero in a comic book in 1941.
A made-for-TV movie named Wonder Woman was almost picked by ABC and adapted into a TV series in 1974. But unfortunately the ratings were described as, “respectable but not exactly wondrous” so ABC backed out.

In the 1970’s TV series Wonder Woman was played by Lynda Carter. Now she is seen as the President of the United States on Supergirl TV Series.
The first woman to direct a comic book movie with a female protagonist is director Patty Jenkins. She also directed the film Monster back in 2003. Also Lexi Alexander was the first female to direct a comic book adaptation with Punisher: War Zone.

Chris Pine is a US Army Air Force pilot who gets rescued by Wonder woman. He plays as Steve Trevor and said that he’s having an easy time on set.

Then in the late ’90s, Warner Bros had a script written for the first motion picture for Wonder Woman. The film was never made and Sandra Bullock was targeted for the role of Wonder Woman.
Can you imagine how this movie could be?
Even though the comic book is set during World War II, the movie takes place during World War I. The filmmakers though that WWI was an era that happened to be a major time for the women’s rights movement. That’s why the change has been made.

Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Wonder Woman again this year as she’ll suit alongside other DC heroes in Justice League which is due in November.
The film’s opening weekend box was $100.5 million which is the highest US opening for a movie directed by a woman in the history.
