10 Wrong Premises People Have Regarding Maintenance

10 Wrong Premises People Have Regarding Maintenance

Melissa Maker is a Canadian based YouTube vlogger interested in everything there is to know about easier and more effective maintenance of your place.

Now you might think that all cleaning is to be taken into consideration and praised. You would be surprised to know that they are actually things such as ‘bad’ cleaning habits. And you have to deal with them today!

Here is what we need to remove from our daily cleaning routines:

1. Moldy Bath Mats and Shower Curtains

When you get out of the shower, all you wanna do is chill in your bathrobe and feel like a God. Nobody even thinks of doing chores at that point. However, if you forget to close your shower curtain and pull up your non-slip bath mat, they are gonna get filled with mold, mildew odors and trap a lot of moisture. And that’s like a petri dish for bacteria and nasty things.

2. Cleaning With Dirty Cleaning Tools

Cleaning a surface with something that is dirty is a paradox in itself. First and foremost, it will make the surface look physically dirty. Secondly, it will also spread bacteria around the surface. And this is exactly what you’ve been trying to avoid all along.

3. Disinfectant Wipes For Cleaning

No matter how easy it is to just go through your surfaces with disinfectant wipes, these wipes were not designed to clean such big surfaces. If you really want to clean something, please make sure you are using the right products and tools.

4. Piling Up Damp Towels and Cloths

Never, and I mean never, put your towels in the hamper while still wet. On the contrary, you are risking colonies of mold and mildew forming on the cloths. This is because the moisture has nowhere to escape. Make sure your cloths are dry before you throw them into the hamper.

5. Using Bleach As A Cleaner

Bleach has no cleaning properties. Using bleach to clean is futile because the only other thing that bleach does except for whitening is disinfecting.

6. Leaving Dirty Dishes In The Sink

There is nothing more poisonous than a sink full of dishes. Remember, sloth is a deadly sin. Please, after you’ve finished that bowl of Fettuccine Alfredo, make sure that you clean your plate. You will also avoid a lot of unneeded family debates.

7. Holding On To Old Stuff

Never has the old saying “Out with the old, in with the new” rung more true. Magazines are one of those things that you want to hold on to. Start with this practice: once you buy something that’s new, get rid of one old item. Do not pile up on old things. There is really no need to.

8. Using too much product

Using a generous amount of product might seem like a good idea especially if something looks like a pigsty, but the truth is the opposite.

Using too much of a cleaning detergent or soap will only require more cleaning on your behalf because now you end up stuck with all the dirt and the soap that needs rinsing.

Always remember to use less product than what you might be inclined to do.

9. Cluttered Surfaces

Declutter your space. When you have a space that’s clean, don’t look at it as a temporary storage solution, look at it as a deliberate space!

Don’t confuse the ‘naivety of spontaneous hoarding’ with aesthetics.

10. Using Paper Towels Instead of Cleaning Cloths

That’s absolutely wasteful and expensive! It might seem convenient but it’s not! Always choose to go with a cloth rather than paper towels! That’s what towels are made for.
