You may wash your hair every day out of habit, follow the same routine of shampooing, conditioning, towel drying and blowdrying, and while this may get your hair clean, there are small changes you can make to protect your hair while washing and make it glossier.
Not big changes, but they make a big difference. Have a look at our 7 steps below and start making small modifications to your daily/weekly routine.
STEP 1: BRUSH BEFORE YU WASH
Brushing will stimulate circulation in your scalp while also preventing breakage by de-knotting all the tiny tangles.
STEP 2: WET YOUR HAIR AND APPLY SHAMPOO
Adjust the temperature to just above lukewarm, as cool as you can stand, warm and hot water can cause breakage and dry out your skin. Use a small amount of shampoo depending on how long your hair is, when there is less product, there is less possibility for build up.
STEP 3: MASSAGE YOUR SCALP
Massage the shampoo into your scalp using your finger tips, use circular motions for about two minutes.
STEP 4: RINSE WITH COOLER WATER
When you finish the 3 step now it is time to rinse all that product out. Be sure to use lukewarm water, even cooler than before, and rinse thoroughly. Getting it as dry as possible before the next step is helpful too.
STEP 5: CONDITION
Squeeze as much water out of your hair as possible. This will prevent water from over-diluting the beneficial moisturizers of the conditioner. Apply a adequate dollop, depending on the length of your hair, start about 6 cm away from your scalp and draw it down scrunching it into the ends . This will help nourish, hydrate, and repair your hair.
STEP 6: RINSE WITH COOL WATER
Using cool water to rinse will seal the outer layers, or cuticles, of your hair. Temperature is key!
STEP 7: DRY
Gently pat your hair to towel dry, then blow-dry if need be, but not after every wash. Blow-dry from root out to tip — this aids in keeping your cuticles tightly sealed. Use the lowest setting and never stop moving the blow-dryer as this can dry out patches of your hair.
