Has it ever happen to you to start watching a TV show or a movie, start liking a character and out of the blue the actor that plays the role gets recast? Because it has happened to me and it is truly heartbreaking. Many times when they change the actor playing a certain role, whether it’s the main character or not, it’s risky and you are not guaranteed that the audience will like the replacement. However, here are 15 actors that were switched in which some were favored and some not so much.
1. Fox Mulder and John Doggett, The X-Files
When David Duchovny decided to leave the show, things were not good. Replacing him cost a lot and when the new actor came he didn’t even want Agent Mulder’s role. Robert Patrick played the new FBI agent, John Doggett.
2. Victor Creed, X-Men
Fans loved the recast of this character. Liev Schreiber replaced Tyler Mane in the X-Men franchise. The role was played beautifully by Schreiber.
3. Evelyn O’Connell, The Mummy
Rachel Weisz was one of the reasons the first two movies of The Mummy were successful, however, when the actress decided to leave the movies because the scenario wasn’t good enough. She was replaced by Maria Bello whom the critics nor fans did not like.
4. Rachel Dawes and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Batman
Katie Holmes who played Bruce Wayne’s love refused to continue playing that role after her Golden Raspberry nomination for playing that character. But the actress was replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal who wonderfully portrayed the character.
5. Reggie, Riverdale
Due to all of his other projects, Reggie played by Ross Butler was replaced by Charles Melton. The producers wanted to find an actor as lovely and funny as him and they did it! Charles does a wonderful job at playing Archie’s opponent.
6. James Rhodes, Iron Man
Tony Stark’s best friend was played by Terrence Howard in the first Iron Man movie. But replaced by Don Cheadle in the second part. Terrence left because he wanted more money since his character had a lot of screen time.
7. Doctor, Doctor Who
Doctor Who has been played by men only for the past 50 years and when they announced the role was going to be played by a woman there were a lot of opinions going around. Jodie Whittaker is going to be playing Doctor Who, even though typically the actor in the tv series is changed in almost every season, it has never happened to be replaced by a woman. The new season will Jodie has started this October and we are all rooting for her!

9. Catwoman, Batman Returns, Catwoman
After it took a really long time for the shootings of the spin-off to start Michelle Pfeiffer did not want to be a part of the movies anymore. The role was played by Halle Berry which did not portray Catwoman the way Pfeiffer did. Berry got a Golden Raspberry award for her bad acting.
10. Brian O’Connor, Furious 7
Paul Walker’s tragic death shocked the entire world. After it happened many wondered what would occur with his role in Fast&Furious 7. The Mountain ended up being very difficult to obtain. Who else can proudly say that they are still watching Supernatural after all these years? I know, I can. The character of Ruby was played by Kate Cassidy. Fans were not happy with the producer’s new choice.
15. Victoria, The Twilight Saga
Rachelle Lefevre was doing an independent movie with Dustin Hoffman which turned out to be the reason why she got kicked out of the Twilight Saga. According to sources she had to leave and be replaced in the third movie of the Saga because of the other commitments to the other movie. Rachelle said that it did not interfere with filming Twilight but she was still not part of the third movie. Her role was occupied by Bryce Dallas Howard.
