72-Year-Old Grandma Marries A 19-Year-Old Boy She Met At Son’s Funeral

We all have heard of the quote “Age is an issue of mind over matter.” And then another quote goes “Love knows no boundaries.” When you put these two together, you realize “Love knows no age.”

At least, not for the couple whose age gap is 53 years and which this article is about.

Once upon a time, there was a 72-year-old grandmother, whose first husband, with whom she shared 43 years of her life, died times ago. However, the courage this woman has to follow her heart has not been exhausted yet. She is ready to spread her love even after all those years because as we said before, love knows no age, nor boundaries. Love is an emotion veiled in us since childhood, so not because of age, but because of neurochemicals our species has been provided with.

The grandmother we are talking about is Almeda, who found love again after her husband died. Her new partner is a 19-year-old teenager named Gary Hardwick. The two met at the funeral of Almeda’s son, Robert, who died at the age of 45 after suffering a seizure. Almeda was 71 back then, whereas Gary was only 17. Two weeks after they met for the first time, they got married in 2016.

When speaking about her first marriage, Almeda said on her YouTube channel:

I was married for 43 years and there wasn’t a lot of kissy, huggy stuff going on … no romance.

As for her current relationship, she describes it as a ‘whirlwind.’

Despite the age gap, Almeda and her new partner Gary enjoy their relationship to the fullest. They always spend their time complimenting each other and kissing.

Speaking on a video uploaded to YouTube, she added:

We are always complimenting and kissing. We’re enjoying our relationship. When you meet that perfect one, that’s when you know you don’t want to lose that feeling.

The compliments, the hugs the kisses… that’s very romantic.

Almeda and Gary revealed that the first time they spend their night together was on their wedding night, and described each other as ‘wonderful lovers’.

Speaking for the New York Post, Gary said:

It was wonderful, beyond my wildest dreams. She really is my dream woman and the physical side of our relationship couldn’t be better.

When speaking about their relationship, Almeda also offered advice to others who were doubtful. She revealed they do little things every day to help each other out, as sometimes it’s the little things that matter the most. Whenever Gary or Almeda cooks or washes the dishes, they always thank and compliment each other. We are not sure tomorrow will come, so show your love every second and every day of your life.

Before meeting Almeda, Gary was in a relationship with a 77-year-old woman, but he was not content nor happy with his relationship, as he felt trapped during that time. They spend most of the time fighting, which led Gary to fall into depression.

It was Gary’s aunt, Lisa, who invited him to go to her husband Robert’s cremation service, where he met Almeda for the first time.

Recalling the first time they met, Almeda said:

I’d noticed this young man with a lovely smile during the service and thought, ‘Wow, this is the one.’

He was on the other side of the church, but I kept looking over at him. It was like a bright light through the grief.

Then, as I was walking to the door at the end, he came over and passed on his condolences. We didn’t have much time, but it was enough.

While Gary continued:

It was an instant thing for me too. She had the most gorgeous, sparkling blue eyes.

They met again, at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, with Almeda saying:

I just came out with it and said to him, ‘Look, I’m 71 and you’re 17. Am I too old for you?’ He squeezed my hand, grinned and replied: ‘Age is just a number.’

After they got married in October 2016, Gary had a new chest tattoo with Almeda’s name written on it.

He said:

Almeda is so young at heart that age never bothers us, we never really think about it. I just know that God answered my prayers that day she walked into my life.

Almeda added:

The one thing I’ve learned is that when you truly love somebody, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.
