The holiday we know as Halloween has had many influences from many cultures over the centuries. Nowadays, Halloween is a day of activities like festive gatherings, trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, and donning costumes and scary or not makeup looks. But, that was not always the case.
For Celts, Halloween marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark and cold winter. This time was often associated with human death. This was 2,000 years ago. Celts believed that on the 31st of October, the border between two worlds (the living and the dead) would be weakened. So, on this day they decided to celebrate Samhain. There are stories when people wore scary costumes and makeup and run along the street to scare the ghost away.
However, nowadays the reason behind Halloween celebration has changed. Now, choosing a costume or makeup look is done merely for fun. And partially, for scaring people. I mean, living people.
So, now that Halloween is just a few days from knocking on our doors, have you decided on a Halloween makeup look yet? If you haven’t, I am sure you will now.
