On Friday morning, the 37-year-old American singer, Britney Spears announced an indefinite work hiatus. The reason behind her break is her father’s recent life-threatening illness. The singer wants to devote all of her time to her family’s effort to care for her father during his recovery. Just like her family have been there for her, Britney wants to be there for her family too.
Britney took to Twitter to share an emotional tweet, including a photo of a young Britney with her parents, Jamie and Lynne. She captioned the photo:
I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.
She then went on to thank all of her fans for their continued love and support during these hard times, adding:
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.
Two months ago, Britney’s father, Jamie Spears became ill and was rushed to a hospital in Las Vegas. His colon spontaneously ruptured and he was immediately admitted into surgery. After almost a month in the hospital, Jamie is recuperating at home and gaining his strength. He is expected to make a full recovery.
But, for Britney, “it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make.”

Britney shared the photo on her Instagram page as well, saying:
A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.
As for the ticket refunds, Spears said that it’s available on britneyspears.com.
Britney and her father have always had a very special father-daughter bond. The singer has always credited her father for helping her during hardships and difficult times in her life. She once explained to the Daily Star”
My father saved my life. I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him…I owe him my life.
We wish Jamie a complete and speedy recovery!
