This Is How A Student Completely Transformed Her Bum From Flat To Firm

Corinna Mantegazza is a 24-year-old medical student based in Novara, Italy who has a schedule that rocks. While there are days she is sitting almost all day studying, there are other days where she sprints back and forth along hospital corridors. However, there is not one day that goes by without a solid workout, something she credits for her incredible transformation.

Her fitness journey began two years ago where she started documenting every bit on her Instagram account. Her fitness inspiration and progress pictures gathered her more than 38,000 followers in just eight months. Corinna, who hasn’t always been a fitness fanatic said:

I don’t post my half-naked pictures just to be seen but to show to girls who have the problems I once had that anything is possible.

Corinna said that during her school times, she was quiet and spent most of her time studying and stressed. While she was stressed, she was also concerned that inactivity would trigger weight gain, and that’s when she started to limit her food intake, which she now sees as an undiagnosed eating disorder. When she finished school, her weight hit a new low, however, stating university changed her mindset and lifestyle. She said:

Being a med student makes you realize how important prevention is [for your health]. I didn’t want to be a doctor who doesn’t take care of herself.

First, she ditched her boyfriend who made her self-conscious and contributed to her self-esteem, made new workout buddies, and learned to exercise for stress relief and general health as opposed to weight control. Even though she still feared dietary fat and avoided carbs at home, she learned to give herself a break when out with friends, without feeling bad for eating, which helped her gain back the weight she had lost.

In January of her fourth year of school, Corinna heard about Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guides (BBG), which is a two-part, 12-week program that involves a series of 28-minute, high-intensity interval training workouts broken down by body part to target the abs, legs, and arms. Determined to follow that program, Corinna began working out six times a week.

The extra effort paid off when she started seeing results. She said:

It wasn’t easy to go to the gym after I’d already been out of the house for 12 hours. It felt kind of like a game when I started, and as soon as I saw my body changing, I fell in love with fitness.

The results also encouraged her to keep her diet in check too. Apart from the rare treat, she was still relatively restrictive when she ate at home, saying:

I indulged in things like Nutella and desserts because my body was craving more food.

Corinna began eating more balanced meals that are made up of protein, healthy fats, and carbs, while avoiding the fat-free processed foods she used to eat regularly.

She used to eat a couple of crackers of breakfast, a green salad with ham for lunch, and meat or fish with vegetables for dinner. Due to BBG’s dietary plan, Corinna has increased her food intake, almost doubling her daily calorie intake. Now, she eats Greek yogurt, oatmeal, and fresh fruit for breakfast, a mid-morning and afternoon snack made of banana bread or a carrot muffin, and some kind of rice, grain, or pasta with meat or fish, and veggies for lunch and then again dinner.

Eating healthy did not deprive her of treats either. Corinna still ate chocolate every night. Moreover, she continued going out and eating out with friends at least two times a week, indulging in foods such as burgers, fries, pizza, and ice cream. Regarding this, she said:

I spent years being afraid of those kinds of foods, but I started to understand that they’re not so bad if you consume them in moderation.

Six months into exercising regularly and eating properly, Corinna said her routine made her feel more energized and less bloated. Plus, she says that she sleeps much more soundly, eight hours a night. The most evident result in her physique was her bum, which she couldn’t help but notice how much it has changed throughout the time. All the high-intensity interval training and cardio paid off, especially in her butt area that was starting to deflate.

Being a medical student, Corinna learned about the human body and its ability to respond to food and exercise. That’s when she found herself in the gym’s weight room to try adding strength training to her fitness routine. To build muscle mass, she started increasing her portion sizes, a thing she was terrified of in the past since she always thought eating more would make her gain fat. However, Corinna now trusted the science behind the strategy, and it worked for her. I mean, look at her pictures:

A typical workout for Corinna consists of five sets of 10 to 20 reps of about 11 different exercises, such as weighted squats, sumo squats, single-leg deadlifts, cable kickbacks, split squats, curtsy lunges, and hip thrusters. Corinna opts for the heaviest weights she can handle, and her goal is to improve each upcoming day. Hitting the gym six times a week, Corinna exercises for about an hour. On Mondays and Thursdays, she trains her legs and butt, her shoulders on Tuesday, her back and biceps on Wednesdays, and her chest and triceps on Fridays. During weekends, she does high-intensity interval training on a bike, do CrossFit, take a run, or bike outdoors.

It sure does take a lot of time and effort to maintain a body like Corinna’s, but she says that she is grateful because it taught her to love herself. She said:

I spent so much time hating the image I was seeing in the mirror, and sometimes, I still have bad body image days. But going to the gym and feeding my body with the best products makes me feel better about everything.

Corinna now feels comfortable in her own skin and is able to enjoy pizza without feeling guilty or worrying about its effects on her body. Finally, she is focusing on goals outside the gym, such as graduating from her med school.

Corinna said that she would love to become a personal trainer one day, or compete in bikini competitions, but for now, she is just as happy sharing her story with others. She added:

I believe lifting weights is something every girl should do because it shapes your body and supports your metabolism, but mostly because it makes you feel strong. I feel so confident and strong — like never before.
