This Canadian Photographer Uses Christmas Lights To Capture Magical Portraits

Stunning winter and snowy sights, as well as Christmas trees and lights, inspire millions of photographs taken around the world every year.

Irene Rudnyk is a Canadian photographer and YouTuber who shares her amazing and fascinating behind-the-scenes videos and tutorials about photography. Her YouTube channel has more than 242 968 subscribers to date. On it, she posts content in which she shows viewers the ultimate secrets of the professional photographer.

Like many other artists, Irene finds inspiration in the winter holidays. In one of her latest videos, she demonstrates how a simple string of Christmas lights can be used to light portraits to great effect.

A true masterpiece, right? Stunning model, extraordinary picture.

In her winter pictures, by using just Christmas lights and a photogenic model, Irene captures marvelous portraits that are both magical and mysterious. They are warm, pure, snowy and wintery.

Rudnyk uses a Canon 5D Mark III DSLR and a Canon 85mm f/1.2L lens

She opens the aperture as wide as possible and she creates the ‘bokeh effect’ of a blurred background which just enhances the amazing portraits even more. Beyond beautiful, right?

The talented artist experiments with several setups. In one, she holds several bulbs close to her lens while in the other, she has the model cup the light in her hands.

Incredibly, as it got darker outside, the photographer had the model immerse herself in the strands, bathing her in warm light.

Simply stunning.

The amazing work of Rudnyk also shows that there is no need for expensive equipment or extravagant locations in order to have incredible results.

I like books, flowers, makeup, and long walks. That pretty much sums me up.
