Cardi B Responds To Backlash Over Video Saying She Drugged And Robbed Men

An old video of Cardi B speaking about her past has recently resurfaced and received a lot of backlash from disappointed fans. In the video, which she had posted to her social media three years ago, she is heard talking about the extreme lengths she used to go when she was younger in order to make a living.

The rapper, who used to work as a stripper, claimed in the resurfaced clip that she used to drug and rob men after telling them to follow her to a hotel to have sex.

“I had to go strip, I had to go, ‘Oh yeah, you want to f— me? Yeah, yeah, yeah, let’s go back to this hotel,’” the “Bodak Yellow” singer says. “And I drugged n—– up, and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do.”

Now, the 26-year-old rapper has taken to social media once again, this time to clear up those previous claims. In an Instagram post, Cardi writes:

“So I’m seeing on social media that a live[stream] I did 3 years ago has popped back up. A live where I talked about things I had to do in my past right or wrong that I felt I needed to do make a living,” Cardi wrote. “I never claim to be perfect or come from a perfect world wit [sic] a perfect past I always speak my truth — I always own my s—.”

She explains that she feels she is part of a culture where she can own up to things she had to do “to survive” and because she has “very limited options.” The mother-of-one adds that she has learned from her mistakes since then and has been ” blessed to have been able to rise from that,” something many other women have not been able to do.

She also backtracks on the claim that the men she robbed were unconscious, saying they were “conscious, willing and aware,” finishing off by saying all she can do now “is be a better me for myself my family and my future.”

After the clip resurfaced, people created the hashtag #SurvivingCardiB, in reference to the Lifetime docu-series Surviving R. Kelly which delved into the sexual abuse allegations against R. Kelly through the years. They thought that this was a case of double standards since if it had been a man, people would have made a much bigger deal out of it.

“Why isn’t anyone talking about #CardiB and her drugging men then robbing them… like if this were a man for example… this would be a different story. waiting for #survivingcardib,” one person tweeted with the hashtag, while another one claimed, “I just don’t understand how she can get away with ALL these crimes she did. Really disgusting. Really sad. “

Cardi has often spoken about her past as a stripper, telling the April 2018 issue of Cosmopolitan that the reason she always talks about it is that she wants people to respect strippers and know that “just because somebody was a stripper don’t mean they don’t have no brain.”

She will also be starring in the upcoming movie called Hustlers alongside Jennifer Lopez, Crazy Rich Asians’ Constance Wu, Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, and Julia Stiles. The movie follows a group of strippers who scam their clients out of their money and is set in the early 2000s in New York City.
