War and Peas is an artist duo from Germany who create short comics with an unexpected ending. Since 2011 Jonathan Kunz who works as a lecturer at the Saar College of Fine Arts in southwestern Germany and Elizabeth Pich who works as a freelance comic artist, work together to publish comics with a pinch of black humor on the Internet. Their stories are usually made up, but they do get inspired by everyday life. “Elizabeth spends most of her time tramping around secluded German forests, eating high-calorie fudge bars, so most of her ideas come from those sugar highs. Jonathan just watches a lot of TVs,” War and Peas told Bored Panda.
Jonathan and Elizabeth’s four-panel comics have become famous for their unexpected twists that often catch the viewer off guard. The duo, who met at art school and started collaborating in 2011 even have a store in Saarbrücken, Germany, but they will happily ship all over the world to anyone who enjoys comic prints and merchandise. When asked to describe their work, they said “A Scottish bus driver laughed so hard at our comics that he drove right into Lake McGowanshire and died. Our condolences to his family. Thus, the supreme quality of War and Peas has been demonstrated.”
And you thought Germans had no sense of humor?
