Disney Star Claps Back At Trolls And Defends Instagram Bikini Video

Dove Cameron starred in the Disney Channel teen sitcom “Liv and Maddie” from 2013 to 2017. The 23-year-old actress took to Instagram on Friday to post a blurry video of herself wearing a two-piece bikini and although the video was watched more than 2 million times it sparked a slew of negative comments among her followers. However, the actress didn’t just leave things like that and responded to this criticism.

Apparently, many of the commenters thought that the video was too sexualized and she had so many young fans who shouldn’t see it. One person even wrote:

“My cousin’s teenage daughter (she’s 13) is a fan of yours. Do you think this is appropriate for her? It’s one thing to pose in your bikini and be proud of your body (yeah you’re sexy)… But you’re posing and stroking your hair very provocatively on a bed. Considering your fanbase … Not appropriate. Go pose on the beach or something”

When she first shared the video the actress captioned it “i love the female body 🕯🌊🕊 ” Then, due to so many negative comments and criticism, she updated her caption writing a disclaimer:  “guys if i’m in a bathing suit, and i’m 23 and you’re tripping, you need to re-evaluate what trips you up. and also get more comfortable w the human body”

However, that disclaimer wasn’t the only clapback that the actress had to say. She later posted an image of William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s 1879 nude portrait The Birth of Venus’ along with a long caption writing:

The human body isn’t offensive y’all. stop objectifying women so hard that you convince yourself that something natural and beautiful could ever be something offensive. also let women define their own bodies & their relationship to their bodies for themselves. stop defining women’s bodies for said women. A body is not inherently sexual. It is beautiful and innocent.

Dove Cameron is an ongoing supporter of the body positivity movement, and in a recent interview with StyleCaster, she opened up about her struggles with eating disorder and body image:

“I’ve worked really hard to maintain health and normality, and if someone wants to go on my Instagram and tell me that I am not as thin as I used to be, or I have a zit here, I don’t care about what that angry person has to say. What’s important is the freedom and the quality of my life. As long as my life is happy and healthy, so is my worldview.”
