Drake paid tribute to his friend Nipsey Hussle – real name Ermias Asghedon – who was fatally shot on Sunday near his clothing store in Los Angeles, at only 33.
The 32-year-old rapper poured out one beer in the memory of the singer, as seen in an Instagram clip, while saying “Exactly, exactly, that’s easy, the whole thing, like that,” as he emptied the bottle.
Note that Drake had collaborated with the late singer back in 2010 on the “Killer” track.
Following Hussle’s death, the Canadian rapper took to Instagram to express his sadness with an emotional post, reflecting back to the time they spoke about releasing a new song together.
F***. My whole energy is just at a low right now hearing this. We just linked for the first time in years and said we were gonna do a new song this summer cause it had been too long.
You were having the best run and I was so happy watching from distance fam nobody ever talks down on your name you were a real one to your people and to the rest of us.
Drake wrapped up his post saying he wants “the world to know I saw you as a man of respect and a don.”
Other artists including Rihanna, Beyonce, Ice Cube, J. Cole, Snoop Dog, Nas, as well as athletes like Steph Curry, Colin Kaepernick, LeBron James, and Tristan Thompson, were among people who paid their respects to the late singer.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Eric Holder, the 29-year-old who was found in nearby Bellflower, California, about 20 miles east of the location where Hussle was fatally shot.
According to authorities, Holder and Hussle had known each other, and that the two had had a problem on the day of the shooting, in which two other men were also injured.
