Here is some sad news for all Ellen DeGeneres fans. The unique and amazing show might be coming to an end in a couple of years. I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying. Actually, I think we all are crying. You know, a couple of years in advance. Ellen, in an interview with The New York Times, unveils that she actually wasn’t sure whether she wants to extend her contract for the summer of 2019. She really thought it through, talking to a lot of people about it, with them being her wife, Portia, her brother, as well as another comic.
DeGeneres explained what Portia’s stand is in all this, saying:
She gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop.
While her wife, whom she married back in 2008, said:
I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity. There are other things she could tackle. I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending.
Portia sure does acknowledge potential when she sees it.
If you remember, there were a few rumors flying around, saying that DeGeneres is not all nice to her staff members. However, DeGeneres called the rumors fake, discarding them and saying:
That bugs me if someone is saying that because it’s an outright lie. The first day I said: ‘The one thing I want is everyone here to be happy and proud of where they work, and if not, don’t work here’. No one is going to raise their voice or not be grateful. That’s the rule to this day.
As expected, De Rossi stood up for Ellen, too, saying that she is merely misunderstood at certain times. De Rossi said:
She’s just a bit more complicated than she appears on the show. There’s more range of emotion.
DeGeneres has been preparing her stand-up special which will premier on December 18, and it will be the first one since back in 2003. Talking about it, Ellen said:
I wanted to show all of me. The talk show is me, but I’m also playing a character of a talk-show host. There’s a tiny, tiny bit of difference.
As an instance, she explains:
There’s been times someone wants a picture, and while I’m doing a selfie, they’re like: ‘You’re not dancing!’ Of course I’m not dancing. I’m walking down the street.
Hopefully, the show will keep airing and we will get much more out of the amazing and inspiring comedian.
