He might have spent a good portion of the year beefing with Machine Gun Kelly, but that hasn’t stopped him from being the biggest rapper ever.
Eminem earned himself the title of top artist in 2018, according to new stats, outselling every single artist in the world. The 46-year-old rapper sold more than 755,000 records in 2018, and according to BuzzAngle Music report, more than a half of his album sales came from Kamikaze.
Em released his tenth album – Kamikaze– in August last year, which went platinum in October, having shifted over one million units. Just last week, it was announced that the record made the top 10 list of the biggest-selling albums for 2018. And even though Kamikaze was not the biggest selling of the year, the record, together with the rapper’s broad back catalog, made him no. 1.
The runner up, K-pop icons BTS, sold 150,000 less than the rapper, Chris Stapleton holds the third place with 577, 287 albums, and Metallica coming in at no. 4 with 539, 861 albums sold. While The Beatles, Queen, and Justin Timberlake, also made the top 10 list.
This just goes to show that people are still invested in Eminem’s legacy, especially since now, in the modern era when the streaming figures are considered to be more important. Slim Shady is still hanging out with the ‘big dogs’ in the market.
In addition to that, Em also broke records on YouTube with his diss track ‘Kill Shot‘ for Machine Gun Kelly, becoming the largest debut of any hip-hop track to be uploaded on the site.
All things considered, it was a pretty good year for Marshal Mathers III. It’s been 20 years since his debut album, and his fans are still devoted to him. He’s still breaking records, and still attracting new listeners.
