Firefighter Adopts Baby Girl He Delivered After Saving Her Life

Firefighters are not only heroes because they fight fires and save lives along the way. They are also amazing people and genuine lifesavers. In the case of firefighter Marc Hadden, he was also a baby saver. Unbelievable, he even adopted a baby girl two days after delivering her and saving her mother’s life. Marc, from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, delivered the mother Rebecca Grace on 14 November 2011 after she called the emergency services. The father-of-two had an instant connection with the little one and after hearing the mom could not take care of the baby, he decided to adopt her.

“She struggled from the minute she was put in my hands,” 28-year-old Marc told People magazine. “It was amazing to hear her cry.”

Marc and his wife Beth were already parents to two children, Will, who is now 15, and Parker, now 13. Amazingly, they always wanted a third one, but Beth had difficult pregnancies so they had to consider adoption.

After Marc saved the little baby and her mother, he spoke with his wife and hey decided to adopt the little Grace. Beth, an instructional coach at the local elementary school, visited the mother the next day and spoke to her about it. Then, the doctors confirmed the adoption could move further, but Grace’s mother was hesitating. She did not want to give her baby to people she just met. Luckily, she changed her mind and the family adopted the little baby.

“Suddenly the opportunity was there for me to say that Marc and I had been praying about adoption for years,” Beth said. “And she looked over at me and said, ‘I want you to adopt my baby.’

“She had the nurse bring her in and I was able to hold Gracie for the first time. I called Marc and said, ‘I think we just had a baby.'”

By the end of the day, the couple signed for temporary custody. They brought her home only 48 hours after she was born!

Grace has been part of their family for six years now, but her parents have always been honest with how they became her parents.

“We told her pretty much from day one,” says Marc. “I’ve taken her to the back of the ambulance where she was born, so she knows – no doubt about it.”

According to her mum, Grace is now a ‘tough little joker’ due to the influence of her two big brothers.

Marc and Beth are still amazed and grateful for the opportunity they had.

“I’ve always wanted a daughter, and this is just amazing,” said Marc.

Beth added: “Sometimes the best things in life happen in the blink of an eye – and you can’t let them pass you by.”

Here‘s another couple who decided to adopt triplets.
