Game Of Thrones Fans Will Call In Sick Today After Staying Up Late To Watch The First Episode

Game of Thrones has finally returned for its last season and we can’t believe it’s here after two years of waiting.

In America, the episode airs at 9 pm Eastern Time. Sadly for European fans, the first episode of the eighth season of the hit show aired last night at 2 am which meant everyone had to stay up really late. The worst part about it is that next day is Monday and people have to work.

And you might know Game of Thrones fans as the most dedicated fans in the entire world. They try to avoid spoilers left and right. Staying up late is a must if you want to watch the episode and fully enjoy it.

It was reported by the West Australian that thousands of people are expected to call in sick to work today from staying up late to watch the episode. In Western Australia, the show aired at 9 am on Monday morning, typically when most people start their day.

TV Tonight blog editor David Knox told the news outlet that:

If your workmate calls in sick on Monday, chances are they have a bad case of Westerositis, which will likely repeat for the next few weeks. If you dare to spoil them with a death you’ve read about on social media, prepare to be cut from the will.

And if you are a Game of Thrones fan you know how serious it is for the episode to be spoiled to you. Slater and Gordon employment lawyer Daniel Stojanoski agreed with Knox, continuing that taking a leave is legal, however falsely claiming to be ill is very illegal.

Stojanoski said:

I can definitely say there will be a bigger rate of people taking the day off to watch Game of Thrones because it’s a Monday, it’s convenient.

Also, the Eagles and the Dockers are playing on Saturday night. Perth Glory is playing on Sunday night at home. What a wonderful epic long weekend bender! Watch the footy, watch the football, watch Game of Thrones.

The lawyer suggested that if you are planning on watching Game of Thrones live it would be better to ask your employer compliance then calling in sick.

If you are not living in Europe, did you stay up late to watch GoT and call in sick to work?

Needless to say, we are so happy Game of Thrones is back and we are so excited to see how everything will end!
