Grandparents Unveiled As The Winners Of The £115m EuroMillions Jackpot

Have you ever thought what you would do if you won the lottery? Would you quit your job? Book a holiday? A ticket to the moon? Pay off all your debts? Invest prudently? Change your Facebook status into “I don’t work, I’m a princess”? Or, you would have a cup of tea and go to bed? Well, that’s exactly what a winning couple from Northern Ireland did after they won £115 million EuroMillions New Year’s jackpot.

The 52-year-old Frances and 54-year-old Patrick Connolly, from County Armagh, who have been together for 30 years, had bought a Lucky Dip online not expecting to win even a penny. So, after they found out they won the huge jackpot, they were pretty shocked. No, they did not pass out, as I would do, nor they experienced an emotional breakthrough. They simply enjoyed a cup of tea and went to bed.

If I were to win the lottery, I’d probably go sing a serenade to my neighbors, book a ticket to Saturn, and never come back. I know, that escalated quickly.

As reported by the Mirror, at a press conference, Patrick recalled the night they found out they had won the lottery jackpot. Patrick, who had bought a Lucky Dip online, checked their numbers online and discovered the amazing news. He then slid back in his chair in disbelief and turned to his wife, Frances, asking her: “Do you want the good news…?” Not realizing yet they were the fourth biggest UK lottery winners in history, his wife joked, “It must be more than £2.60,” as they won £2.60 the week before. Frances then asked him how much they’ve won. Patrick replied, “No, we’ve won.”

The couple wasn’t sure how to react and whether to believe what they were reading. Therefore, they decided to have a cup of tea and share a hug before ringing Camelot the next day to verify the news.

He said:

We really didn’t know what to do or how to react and we didn’t sleep a wink that night.

We rang Camelot at 8 am in the morning to verify the win. Then it started to dawn on us that it was true even though it still hasn’t really sunk in.

Frances added:

We don’t really do excited – perhaps I raised my voice just a bit at the time when I found out – but we celebrated with a cup of tea and a hug.

The couple, who are regular Lotto players, matched five numbers in the EuroMillions draw (01, 08, 11, 25, 28) as well as the two Lucky Stars (04 and 06).

Even though they hoped to win the lottery one day, even in their ‘wildest dreams’ they didn’t imagine such a huge amount of money.

When the pair was asked how they are going to spend the money, the Connollys said a shopping spree isn’t something to top the priority list. Instead, they have created a list of over 50 people they would like to share their fortune with, all of whom haven’t been informed yet. How generous of them! They want to use their money to make an impact on their family and friends’ lives as well. Frances explained their decision to share the money, saying:

This is a massive sum of money and we want it to have a huge impact on the lives of other people we know and love as well as on our future too.

This win gives us the chance to really make a difference for our family and friends.

Frances has also shared some of the things on her to-do-list she would like to achieve. One of them is to buy a second-hand Jaguar with Patrick, saying he wants to shower his wife with gifts. Following the Jaguar, a holiday to Mauritius, some trips to watch rugby matches and an F1 Grand Prix could be included on the list as well.

Now, that they have become the fourth biggest UK lottery winners in history, Patrick plans to retire while Frances wants to continue with studying for her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

Congratulations, you lucky humans!
