Being a parent is the greatest adventure anyone can have. It is also the greatest inspiration. Many artists draw on their family life when they are looking for ideas for their comics. One is Brian Gordon and his brilliant Fowl Language comics. Another is Yllya.
Yllya is a French illustrator and comic artist who is a mother of a 3-year-old daughter. She is the creator of the Happy Family webcomic series. The Montpellier-based artist started this project about a year ago after she and her family got stuck in an elevator. She panicked, her husband wasn’t bothered, and their daughter thought it was a game. After the incident, Yllya figured it was actually an amusing story, so she used it to create a comic. The 34-year-old artist shared the drawing on her Instagram account, received a lot of positive feedback and everything took off from there.
“Family and parenting are a source of infinite inspiration,” Yllya says. Her comics are based on real events, but they are still caricatures, not to be taken at face value. They are funny and easily enjoyed no matter if you have kids or not. Here’s some of her best work, courtesy of BoredPanda.
