Everyone has different preferences when it comes to the physical features of their perfect partner. According to science, a big height difference between the partners shows that their marriage or relationship is successful. Or, more specifically, according to a scientific study, tall husbands and short wives have the best marriages.
In 2015, Korean researcher, Dr. Kitae Sohn, from the Konkuk University in Seoul, conducted the research that proves that taller men have happier wives. Researchers surveyed 8,000 participants and found a correlation between the husband’s height and the wife’s happiness. However, this effect seems to fade over time because Sohn says that this is only a factor for the first 18 years of marriage and after that point, size doesn’t matter.
Doctor Sohn noticed ‘a greater height difference in a couple was positively related to the wife’s happiness’ and ‘the female preference for male height increased women’s reproductive fitness.’
According to the study, taller men tend to have higher self-esteem. Also, it seems that employers consider taller men to be more trustworthy and skillful too, so they are more likely to earn more money, reports 9gag.
Goodfulness writes: “Taller men may appear more trustworthy and capable to employers. Thus, they might be first considered for raises and promotions. However, in the overall scheme of things, a man’s resourcefulness was only a minor factor. That is when compared to his height and her happiness.”
Kitae reveals that it is established that a woman’s preference for a taller men comes down to evolution- even though there hasn’t been proof of that.
In his journal, Personality And Individual Differences, Sohn states, ‘women simply like tall men’
He continues: “This is similar to people favoring fatty, salty, and sugary foods without knowing exactly why. Such foods are essential to survival but were scarce as humans evolved. Hence craving such foods increased reproductive fitness in the past.”
