Instagrammers Criticized Over Picture Which Shows Them Hanging Out Of A Moving Train

Another day, another Internet personality on the spotlight for having done something careless or controversial.

Lately, these so-called Instagram influencers are rising in popularity, and with so many people following their every move, which they choose to broadcast to the world, it’s expected that at some point they will do something which will be less than well-received by their followers.

One type of Instagram personality is the travel bloggers who share pictures from the places they visit, and one such type of blog is run by Raquel and Miguel, aka @explorerssaurus_, who have over 200k followers. Last month, however, they found themselves at the end of a lot of criticism by their followers.

The pair were in Sri Lanka and decided to take an admittedly beautiful and interesting shot, which was simultaneously pretty dangerous. They shot themselves hanging outside of a moving train, which was on top of a bridge. Their act prompted people to call them out for endangering themselves and promoting this type of dangerous behavior all for the sake of “likes.”

One person commented that it’s irrelevant how slow the train is moving, the stunt was still “stupid and dangerous and most importantly you will inspire others to take similar risky and dangerous shots.”

“[You’re] trying pretty hard to be cool,” said another, adding, “if one day somebody really follows you guys and then [something] bad happens, you think you guys will take that blame?”

After seeing the comments, the couple explained that the train was going very slow, and they did not consider it dangerous.

“This train is famous for having the most scenic views,” they added. “Everyone who has been on that train knows that the locals and tourists go hanging at the doors and seated with their feet turned to the outside. Locals don’t do that for likes or for Instagram, right? They do it cause there are no risk involved.”

They continued by listing the other thing they’ve done which might “inspire” others to follow suit like inspiring people to “go out and chase waterfalls,” from which you can slip and fall, or “to do radical activities, like parasailing, water skiing, diving, sky diving, quad biking, diving with sharks… We influence people to get out of their comfort zone and to live!”

Finally, they explained that the “chances of falling from this train are definitely lower than the chances of falling from some stairs…”

And many of their followers seemed to agree as they were quick to defend the duo, saying that they aren’t responsible for others and is someone else tries it, it’s their own responsibility.

What do you think?
