In case you’ve missed it, Kylie Jenner was recently named by Forbes as the “youngest self-made billionaire”, overtaking previous title-holder, Mark Zuckerberg.
The reality TV star made her fortune through her makeup company, Kylie Cosmetics, which she founded and owns 100% of the shares in. She started the company in 2015, when it was called only Kylie Lip Kits, before expanding – it is now worth an estimated $900 million.
After Forbes’s cover was released, people immediately took offense to the “self-made” part of the title, suggesting since Kylie, 21, came from wealth already, she could not have been entirely “self-made.”
But her mother, Kris Jenner is here to stand up for her daughter!
Speaking for Refinery 29, the 61-year-old “momager” insisted that her youngest daughter is “100 per cent self-made,” adding, “she saved up her own money and built this amazing business and I just feel like there’s nothing not self made about that.”
The matriarch described her daughter as having been “independent her entire life — from the time she was a little girl all the way up to her teens,” and that once Kylie “became old enough to make a great decision, she took the money she had earned working since she was eight or nine years old, and she put that into her business.”
Similarly, Kylie has also stood up for herself and her title, telling Paper magazine a while ago that she is self-made since her parents cut her off when she was 15 and even though she did have a platform when she started, her money is not “inherited.”
“My parents told me I needed to make my own money,” the beauty mogul said. “It’s time to learn how to save and spend your own money, stuff like that. What I’m trying to say is I did have a platform, but none of my money is inherited.”
She earned her platform by having appeared on her family’s reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians ever since she was a little girl.
Even though she is the youngest of the Kardashian/Jenners, Kylie is the only one from the family to have reached the billionaire status.
And say what you will, that is pretty impressive.
