According To Lili Reinhart, Riverdale’s Pole Dancing Scene Did What It Was Supposed To Do

Riverdale is a TV series that is currently taking the world by storm and is quickly rising as one of the most popular TV series, right up there with Stranger Things. The series, produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. is based on the characters of Archie Comics. However, what the fans love is that the characters on the show are the polar opposites of the characters from the comic book. Riverdale is known for its dramatic moments but in the episode House of the Devil, they might have surprised their fans a little too much. There was one shocking scene in particular that made almost everyone feel ridiculously uncomfortable and now, fans are questioning the morality of the show.

It was a scene where Betty performs a striptease at Jughead’s father’s retirement party. She takes off her clothes in a bar in front of her boyfriend, dad, mom and other men. A quick reminder- Betty, played by Lili Reinhart is just 16 years old in the show,

But according to the 21-year-old actress, that was the point.  That scene was supposed to make you uncomfortable because you’re watching this girl do something completely out of her comfort zone for the man that she loves,” said Reinhart. “You’re watching her make a personal sacrifice, and that is the most important takeaway.”

“It only makes it harder to watch when they break up at the end of the episode because you know that she laid it all out on the line for him. He’s trying to protect her from that darkness, but she wants to be part of it,” added Lili explaining that Betty will do anything for Jughead.

If you think the actress had a problem with the striptease scene, you are wrong. She even helped write it.

“It was kind of an ongoing situation. The first draft that I got didn’t feel right to me, so I called [the executive producer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and was like, ‘I think this should happen. This is how it should be.’ We worked it out. It was all very well-thought-out and not spontaneous. It was planned and premeditated, so I was a part of it from the beginning. I wasn’t surprised,” said Reinhart.

And she even offered help with the choreography. “They offered me a pole-dancing lesson, like the workout classes girls do, but I was like, ‘No, I don’t think that’s necessary because Betty wouldn’t know how to pole dance. I just want to go in there and feel it out,'” said Reinhart.

“During lunch, before we shot the scene, I was in the set by myself just playing around a little bit and came up with some really simple choreography,” she added.
