Mama June Reveals Secret To Maintaining Her Weight Loss

It’s a new year and a new beginning for Mama June. The reality TV star has introduced some major changes in her life recently, not the least of which are shedding over 300 pounds and finding new love. Now, as part of the promotion for the upcoming second season of her show Mama June: From Not To Hot, the 38-year-old has been talking about the process which saw her reduce her weight significantly. More specifically, she spoke about how she managed to maintain her newly-gained size four figure.

The original reality show that saw June Shannon and her family, especially her daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, shoot to fame was Toddlers & TiarasThe success of that series led the family from McIntyre, Georgia, to become the stars of two spin-off shows, one of which is Mama June: From Not To Hot, the show that, beginning in February 2017, has documented her weight loss journey from from 460 to 160 pounds (209 to 73 kg).

It has been almost a year now since Mama June decided to completely alter her lifestyle and achieve one of the most drastic makeovers we have ever seen. Her methods included, besides the obligatory healthy diet and exercise, a series of cosmetic surgeries. The mother-of-three spent $75,000 on an insertion of a gastric sleeve, breast augmentation, as well as other procedures to remove excess skin form her arms, face, and stomach.

Mama June doesn’t consider undergoing surgery to be cheating when you’re trying to lose weight and she doesn’t care what people say. She told People, “It’s not like I’m Miss Plastic. I don’t consider a tummy tuck or face skin removal ‘plastic surgery’. I believe it’s something that makes you feel better than you did with the skin hanging. I can promise you I’m never going back to my old size. I’m happy where I’m at.”

And she has kept that promise. Mama June has so far managed to maintain her newly acquired figure and that is no mean feat!

“It’s all about portion control for me,” she told the magazine. “It’s not easy to eat like you’re ‘supposed to’ and hit the gym all the time, but I’m just trying to maintain it the best I can.”

The television personality revealed in the interview that besides following a stricter diet and paying regular visits to the gym, she has one more secret up her sleeve. She sleeps until 1 pm and skips breakfast.

“This sounds bad,” she confessed, “but I’m more of a snacker.”

Her favorite snacks include grapes and cheese, but she admits that sometimes she feels like cheating so she has a a Little Debbie jelly cake. She balances these foods with healthy, nutritious dinners consisting of “baked chicken and quinoa” or “baked pork chops, corn and beans.”


While it certainly isn’t the most conventional method, and it’s bound to receive the disapproval of any respectable nutritionist, this regimen seems to work for Mama June. And she has finally found happiness, both with the way she looks and with her new mystery man.

“For the first time in a long, long, long time, I’m happy,” she said.
