12+ Men Who Are Beautiful, Bold And Definitely Not Bald

Hair and its cultural and aesthetic qualities in a society have always gone hand in hand, albeit they have changed through different time periods.

In ancient Greece, long hair on men was a symbol of wealth and power, while a shaven head was fitting for a slave. If you look at pictures depicting the Gods from Greek mythology, many of them have long hair, which they also wore that way in battle. Same with the European middle ages, when shorter hair was a symbol of servitude and peasantry, whereas long hair was worn by the freemen, like the Germanic Goths and Merovingians.

However, in most modern societies today, and for a long time before now, long hair has been a symbol of femininity in women, while men were expected to keep their hair short. As to when this tradition started, it is not certain, but it’s believed it has a lot to do with wars, specifically World War I, and religion. Soldiers were expected to crop their hair short for hygienic purposes in wartime, just as in a lot of religious books they are commanded to have short hair.

During the 1960s and ’70s, long hair came back in fashion for men, as it was kept as a way of protest or “youth rebellion” among the hippies. Even in the 21st century, men who wear their hair long are considered more “edgy” or artistic, or even hippie.

What I’m trying to say is, there is no real reason why men should cut their hair short while women keep them long. They are all society-made constructs, which if everyone followed blindly, we would never have the privilege to witness the handsome men on the pictures below, who boldly wear (and rock!) their long hair.
