The former first lady, Michelle Obama has recently been on a tour to promote her new book, Becoming. On her final stop of the book tour, Mrs. Obama was interviewed by the Sex and the City star, Sarah Jessica Parker, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
She looked dazzling wearing $4,000 glittery thigh-high Balenciaga boots, and a striking yellow dress from the same brand.
During the interview, Obama also spoke about her outfits that made the headlines during her time as the first lady. In the eight years as a first lady, she became quite an influence in fashion. She also said no matter how important the topic she was discussing at the time was, her clothes would always be mentioned.
I did know that my clothes were making a statement, I knew that was the case. So we decided why don’t we use this platform to uplift some young new designers who normally wouldn’t get this kind of attention, because you can change their lives, which is one of the reasons why we chose Jason Wu for my inaugural gown.
Obama said Wu did not expect it and was nothing like some big designers who thought they should have the honor, adding that she hates this feeling.
There are whole lot of people out here who are trying to make it, there are young women and immigrants and black folk.
Interestingly, Obama told Parker that the designer’s personal energy mattered, and she didn’t want to wear pieces of someone who didn’t have a good spirit, who treated their staff or her staff badly.
The interview lasted for more than an hour, and it was the last day of her ‘Becoming: An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama’ tour. Her book, Becoming, has sold more than three million copies since the day of its release last month.
During the interview, she mentioned the Trumps and how the former president Barack Obama and his staff made sure to make no mistakes, as the first black president of the United States.
Often time, when you’re the first or the only, the bar shifts a lot, right? The bar gets set, you meet it, exceed it, they move the bar, and were watching that right now – the bar’s just swinging, and swinging.
As the audience started to laugh, she went on:
It’s a totally new bar – never seen this bar before, ever. But when were in office, our bar was very different – not getting indicted, and telling the truth.
Michelle Obama’s outfit for the interview triggered many reactions. The former White House advisor Valerie Jarrett apparently was present at Barclays as she posted a picture of Michelle’s boots from the backstage on Twitter, captioning it:
Well, I have never seen boots like this before. Have you? Love that @MichelleObama chose these for her last stop on her 2018 #IAmBecoming book tour in Brooklyn, NY.
Interestingly, all the comments were positive, something we’re not used to with all those internet trolls.
Obama’s book became number one in the UK on Tuesday, while in the U.S and Canada, 725,000 copies were sold on the first day of release, and in two weeks it became the No. 1 book of the year.
