“Modern Family” fans, get your tissues ready. ABC announced that one of the television’s most cherished families will soon go on different directions. Everyone’s favorite TV show will come to an end after its 11th season, and ten years after we first became acquainted with the blended Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker family.
The series revolves around three different types of families – nuclear, step and same-sex. It was created by Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan, with a star-studded cast that includes Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland, Sofia Vergara, Ariel Winter, and Ed O’Neill.
ABS president, Karey Burke, announced the show’s ending during the Television Critics Association press tour, saying:
So proud to announce that Modern Family is returning for its 11th and final season. Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history.
In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who portrays Mitchell Pritchett in the show, took to social media to write a bittersweet message, following Burke’s announcement.

Modern Family was praised by critics due to their positive portrayal of a diverse American family. During its time on the air, the show collected 22 Emmy Awards, including five for Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as multiple SAG Awards.
It was also the most popular scripted show during the 2011-2012 TV season, so who knows, maybe this isn’t the end and we’ll get a spinoff. I mean, with Hayley pregnant and all, a spinoff is not out of question.
When asked about it, Burke added:
I would love it. No one would be happier if there were one. This next year, from what I hear, is all about…they have big plans. There are some surprises and big milestones coming. They intend to really, really go out big. So, it would be terrific if a spinoff were part of that.
We want a spinoff, and we want it NOW! Definitely not ready to let go of the show.
