Naomi Scott Is Giving Us A Different Take On Princess Jasmine In The “Aladdin” Remake

When it was first announced that Disney was giving the beloved Aladdin a live-action remake, fans flooded social media with possible actors to take on the movie’s roles. And it appears as though it’s been proven there was no better choice for Princess Jasmine than the actress who ultimately got the part, Naomi Scott.

The 25-year-old British actress revealed how she wanted to try and portray Princess Jasmine as a more “well-rounded, ambitious, and multi-dimensional” character, and “not just there to aid somebody else’s story,” as she said on a video introduction for the British Vogue.

Scott told British Vogue on their April issue that she saw Jasmine as a young woman rather than a teenager, who had “a mature strength that can cut you down.” She also revealed how she told the producers of the movie that she wants to portray Jasmine “strong, and if that’s not what you’re looking for, that’s OK, but it’s not for me.”

The trailer for the 2019 live-action Aladdin was released recently, and we got to see Scott as Princess Jasmine, starring alongside Mena Massoud (Aladdin) and Will Smith (The Genie). Aladdin is the latest in the string of live-action version of popular Disney classics like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and the upcoming Lion King.

Scott told Vogue that her acting career didn’t just take off, and she faced quite a bit of obstacle along the way. “I remember thinking in auditions, ‘OK, this is it, this is the one.’ And then not getting it,” she explained. “And then the next time thinking, ‘OK, this is the one.’ And not getting it again. I was the Nearly Girl for a long time.”

We have no doubt that she will be portraying a version of Princess Jasmine that’s never been seen before, probably just as fierce as her role in the 2019 version of Charlie’s Angels directed by Elizabeth Banks, where Naomi will be starring alongside Kristen Stewart and Ella Balinska as the new generation of “angels”.
