Argyria is a rare condition which is caused by silver build up in the body over a long time. Paul Karson was taking silver compounds to treat his dermatitis and minimize the effects. These compounds react to light similarly as melanin, however, instead of giving the person a tan, they turn the skin silver, like Karson’s case. Once the skin turns silver, it becomes irreversible.
