An Ohio bride-to-be had a wonderful moment turned into a humiliating event because of a photographer who fat-shamed her. The couple hired her to take photos of them for the wedding. Apparently, the photographer went on to photoshop her and her fiance Jon Kistler by making each of them 30-pounds lighter and then posting about it on social media.
Article reported by the Daily Mail.
Katie Liepold found a photographer for her upcoming wedding and took the $600 package, which included engagement photos as well. She said everything went great with photographer Linda Silvestri from Tower Photography in Medina. Until they received their pictures from the engagement shoot.
Liepold says that the photos looked blurry and with a weird angle at first.
Also, she noticed that two photos had been photo-shopped to make them look thinner.
The most upsetting thing was when Liepold discovered that the photographer had deliberately criticized her online.
Here is the photographer’s Facebook post.
Photographer Linda Silvestri called the couple ‘morbidly obese.’
Here is how it all started with Katie’s words.
“We didn’t really need the engagement session, but it was in the package so we did it,” said Liepold to News5 Cleveland.
“The day of the shoot went as well as could be expected. We laughed, we talked, we joked, we shared stories,” Liepold adds.
When the couple got the photos back, they noticed they looked entirely different.
“She actually photoshopped one picture of us skinnier. She probably took like 30 pounds off each of us,” said Liepold.
The bride-to-be contacted Silvestri and said to her: “That wasn’t asked for, and I just felt like that was really hurtful and my pictures weren’t good enough to be left alone.”
Next, the photographer suggested the couple cancel the contract. But the story didn’t end there.
The photographer said that she would keep the $150 deposit as she spent a lot of time shooting the couple.
A couple of days later, Liepold saw an insulting post by Silvestri on a Facebook page called Northeast Ohio Wedding Professionals Only.
Th post has been deleted, but it said that ‘it is extremely difficult to get Pinterest worthy lovey-dovey pictures when people can’t even get their heads together.’
Now, Liepold says that she wants her deposit back.
“I didn’t pay her $150 to have her make fun of me on a site,” said Liepold.
In a statement to DailyMail.com Liepold says she felt it was important to speak out because of her experience.
“The reason I brought my story to light was to warn other brides about Tower Photography and potential other vendors like her. I felt duped by a wedding vendor and I wanted to share this with other brides. I feel I was able to tell my story but I felt like the focus was more on my weight and fat shaming and not on the whole story,” she added.
She makes her point that no one deserves to be treated that way.
“I would just like to say that even though I feel she is unprofessional and not a nice person…nobody deserves to be bullied. Not even her,” she added.
Meanwhile, Silvestri told News5 she is keeping the deposit.
