I’m not a mother myself, but I imagine any parent is so extremely proud of their kids that they want to share their love and excitement with the world. That is why we see so many baby pictures from new mothers on social media, showing off their bundles of joy.
However, for all the good social media does, it also has its negative side. Sure, you can share happy moments from your life with your friends and family – or if you’re famous, with your fans – but at the same time, you are exposing yourself and your family to a lot of judging eyes, and to people who seem to take joy out of ruining something innocent and beautiful.
Celebrities are especially targeted. Because they have such a large following on social media, people scrutinize everything they do, seeming to look for something they can grab on to attack them for. Pink has recently been the target of such trolling after posting a picture of her children to Instagram. During her appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show this Monday, she opened up about why she will no longer be sharing pictures of her children on social media.
The picture she was attacked over showed the mother-of-two crouching down alongside her children, 7-year-old daughter Willow, and 2-year-old son Jameson as the three play with a pelican who had apparently flown into their hotel room.
The picture seems innocent enough, but for some reason, people took offense to the fact her son, who is only two years old had taken off his diaper. The picture received so many negative comments that the singer had to delete it and re-upload with her son’s private parts covered.
“2-year-olds don’t like to wear wet swim diapers and apparently at some point, he took it off,” she explained to Ellen. “I don’t think like that. We live on a farm. My kids are naked. It’s what happens. I’m naked sometimes.”
She said she was extremely touched by the negative comments, some of which were threatening to call child services on her.
“I cried, I cried so hard after that because I like to share my family. It’s the proudest moments in my whole life,” she said. “I’m prouder of my kids more than anything I’ve ever done and I just won’t share them anymore.”
The rest of her appearance on the talk show was mostly positive, with the only downside being the moment she talked about the backlash over the picture. At one point, she talked about how her daughter Willow has gotten herself a job at her mother’s world tour and even opened a lemonade stand to help save sloths.
Pink also talked about her upcoming album and performed her latest song, “Walk Me Home” on the show. Watch the interview below:
