The Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last month was truly breathtaking. From the dress, to the guests, to the ceremony – it’s an event people will most likely remember for years to come. However, despite how perfect everything seemed to be, there was still one thing that was absent. It’s the same thing that was missing from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2011 wedding as well. Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.
We can’t help but wonder what it would have been like if Diana had been there.
Autumn Ying, graphic designer, and artist, has decided to perhaps give us a glimpse into that imagined reality. She has created a series of drawings showing the young royals and they’re all stunningly beautiful. It’s a few of them, however, that have made us a little teary-eyed and emotional.
Ying decided to draw Princess Diana in several pictures as if she had been present at the weddings of her sons.
This one shows her in her wedding dress, with her daughters-in-law, Kate and Meghan. Ying said she drew the pictures as a tribute to Princess Diana, captioning the picture, “While Princess Diana won’t get to see both her daughters-in-law in reality, I’m thinking of visualising this scene as a touching tribute to the late mother of Prince William and Prince Harry.”
Alongside her drawing of the Princess with her sons, she wrote: “I always have such a daydream 💭 Even though we don’t know in which part of the world she is right now, but if there’s such a magical time map of the world, I would know because the place she exists has to the brightest-the place full of stars, lights and magic.”
Autumn is printing out her art for sale, and the earnings from them will apparently be donated to charity. She wrote in an Instagram post:
“It’s the encouragements given by all of you that lead me till this far. And I think it’s time to give back to this world. I will be preparing art prints for this #RoyalWedding series for you after receiving all the requests. While for every art print purchased, the amount will be donated to UNICEF, in hope of helping the children in need out of malnutrition in Cambodia.”
Even though Princess Diana tragically died in 1997, there were several tributes paid to her during both her sons’ weddings.
For example, for his wedding to Meghan Markle this May, Prince Harry handpicked forget-me-not flowers for his bride’s bouquet. These flowers, reported Town and Country, were Princess Diana’s favorites.
Other than that, Meghan’s engagement ring consisted of diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.
Lady Jane Fellowes, Diana’s sister also gave a reading during the wedding which was meant to emphasize the eternal power of love over death, and act as a tribute to Diana.
