Historic Quintuplets Pregnancy Shocks The Entire Hospital

When Oksana Kobletskaya dreamed of having a family, she didn’t think it would end up being that big! The Ukrainian woman from the city of Odessa located on the Black Sea and her husband Sergey were already parents of a three-year-old daughter when she became pregnant again at the age of 36. When she went to the doctor’s, there was a big surprise in store, for the young parents and the medical personnel alike – a quintuplets pregnancy!

Oksana and Sergey had never planned to have a big family, and they just wanted to have two children. However, something seemed very strange from the early stages of Oksana’s second pregnancy: she suspected that she had more than one child in her stomach.

“No one in our family had ever been pregnant with twins. I was sure I would never experience anything like this”, Oksana tells German news source Heftig.

When Oksana went to her regular check-up and ultrasound, the doctor started to frown. Then, he delivered the incredible news.

“When I saw the shock on the doctor’s face, my heart stopped for a moment,” Oksana said.

“Then I heard him mumble something along the lines of: ‘You deserve to have a big house by the sea…'”

He eventually clarified the remark: “I can see five fetuses, maybe six. It’s hard to tell.”

Unbelievably, Oksana was expecting five babies. This is indeed a rare case. Only 1 in 47.458.321 pregnancies result in quintuplets. She was still trying to process the news, while the ecstatic doctor ran to share the news with everyone in the hospital.

But for Oksana and Sergey, it was not an ecstatic moment.

“It almost felt like a nightmare, as though I would wake up at any moment,” remembers Oksana. They started worrying and realized they would have to change all of their future plans.

“It takes time to process this kind of news. I mean, how would we manage to take care of so many children,”, says husband Sergey.

Eventually, they realized how blessed they are and Oksana was ready to give birth in her 30th week. There were 8 doctors waiting for her in the delivery room.

“The treated me like I was made of porcelain– they were extremely cautious,” Oksana says.

Oksana gave birth to three boys and two girls via C-section in the summer of 2016. All of the doctors were prepared for the worst as this kind of pregnancy carries great risks. Luckily, Oksana gave birth to five healthy babies.

Babies Daria, Alexandra, Denis, Vladislav, and David became instant celebrities. They were the first quintuplets born in Ukraine, reports The Mirror.

The babies are now 18 months old and their parents have embraced the challenge of taking care of such a big family. Wherever they go, people stop and greet them happily.

The family has also moved to a bigger apartment with the help of local authorities. On her Instagram account, Oksana shares photos of their “five treasures” and the babies’ adorable big sister.

Aren’t they cute?
