Beauty is a term which has a plethora of definitions, definitions which are shaped based on the person who utters it. For some, beauty is a sculpted body, a striking makeup look, a unique fashion style; qualities which please the aesthetic senses. However, there are many others whose definition of beauty is simple; beauty is who you are with or without makeup, beauty is about knowing and accepting yourself with or without acne, beauty is being yourself with or without others’ consent, beauty is feeling good on your own skin, with or without falling into false ‘beauty standards’, beauty is more than your sense of sight can see.
Since MetDaan is constantly interacting with many beauty and social media influencers, we are glad there are many beautiful persons out there, ready to make a real difference in the society.
To that end, we have reached out the very inspiring, vivacious, bold, and beautiful Alexandra Potora, who is a social media influencer, for an EXCLUSIVE interview for MetDaan. What I mean with ‘social media influencer’ is an inspiration source not only in the ‘beauty realm’ but also in our everyday life, and that’s the thing I appreciate the most about her.
Alexandra, who helms @alexandrapotora Instagram page, together with her Facebook page, website, and YouTube channel, is also a co-founder and CEO of Vrea Cosmetics which is to be launched in 2019. She is definitely a double ‘threat’ as she is not only a beauty influencer but also a social media trove of inspiration. With her feed saturated with vibrant content, she does an impeccable job of providing her fans with beneficial and motivational advice. Her social media run the gamut from personal growth, beauty, relationships, career & money. Alexandra believes that by tackling these four major fields of our lives, you can achieve what you want.
So, following her on social media, you will get the chance to see an impressive catalog of videos and pictures and be convinced that she truly does it all.
Talking about beauty, if you visit her website, on the bottom left you will see her ALEXANISM OF THE WEEK, which is:
To be beautiful means to be YOUrself. Be whatever kind of beauty YOU want to be. You don’t need to be liked or accepted by others, you just need to like and accept YOUrself.
As I said before, that’s exactly the definition each of us should carve in our brains regarding beauty.
In her exclusive interview for us, Alexandra tackled many questions we and her fans prepared for her, mostly related to her journey and skincare.
Speaking of what made her turn to skincare/makeup/beauty tips videos, she first addressed to her insecurity about her body, saying:
I actually have terrible insecurity about my body and just today actually I talked about it in a post on Instagram, so what had happened was that this insecurity really made me realize how the way you look does affect how you feel.
Knowing what it feels like to be so self-conscious about something that pertains to your appearance, forced me, in essence, to immerse myself and commit to doing everything I can to help other women not only just look good but feel good as well.
Moving on to the strength and courage she has to keep doing what she does, she said that passion and desire for what she does and her end goals are what really fuels it all. She also cited a quote that really spoke to her and made her realize an important thing. It’s a quote by Tony Robbins that goes:
People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them.
She then added:
We are not naturally wired with will power, it’s something that we have to exercise like you would any other muscle in your body, and I feel like if generally speaking, you find yourself without that will power and motivation, and desire, and perseverance and what not, it doesn’t mean that you are lazy, it doesn’t mean that you are any less than anybody else. What that tells somebody like me for example, is that you perhaps haven’t found what your soul really wants.
When it came to skin-care questions, Alexandra was very excited. She first went on revealing some pretty helpful advice on how to get rid of acne scars.
Having struggled with acne during her adult life, the magical DIY that has worked wonders for her acne scars has been a mixture of garlic and onion juices. So, what you first need to do is extract juice from fresh organic garlic and fresh organic onion. After mixing these two together, you have to saturate a Q-tip into the mixture and start applying it directly on your spots. The very effective result this mixture has shown in treating and reducing Alexandra’s acne scars are built on garlic antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties. On the other hand, the juice of the onion is acidic and has skin lightening properties, as Alexandra explains.
She uses the mixture twice a day, morning and night. And, if you’re worried about the smell, “you’re gonna wake up in the morning and you’re not gonna stink like anything.” She continues:
If during the day you’re maybe considering by giving it a try in maybe one spot, the reality is that once you start applying all the serums, and moisturizes, and sunscreen, etc., during the day that’s really going to mask the smell.
In terms of products you can purchase, Alexandra prefers lotions that contain hydroquinone, especially if you have melasma. Hydroquinone is a skin-bleaching agent that can lighten brown spots, and as Potora explains, “up to 2 % hydroquinone is what you can buy off-the-counter, without any prescription needed.” However, what she recommends is making a 24-hour patch test and consult with a licensed dermatologist and find out if any concoction or purchased product will work for your skin.
Moving on to the facial hair and how to remove them, there’s a DIY wax recipe she recommends. The ingredients comprising this recipe are as follows:
– 1 cup of granulated sugar
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1 tablespoon honey
– 10 drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil
This recipe is one of the best solutions for facial hair, and to see the step-by-step application, give the video below a click:

As for the stubborn blackheads, what Alexandra prefers is the charcoal peel-off mask from Boscia and her special DIY recipe. The latter one is prepared by mixing 2-3 Tb of distilled water, 1 Tb xanthan gum powder, 4 drops of tea tree oil, and 2 capsules of activated charcoal powder.

Except for blackheads, dry scalp is also another issue many struggles with. What our gorgeous beauty influencer suggests is:
1. Avoid over shampooing
According to Alexandra, you shouldn’t wash more than twice a week. That’s because the more often you wash your hair, the more your scalp will strip off your natural oil. This leads to your skin overproducing oil to overcompensate for the dryness.
2. Avoid products that contain alcohol
What she also recommends is avoiding products that contain alcohol and “looking into your potential and nutritional deficiencies; I would seriously talk to a doctor to find out if you have any B deficiencies that can oftentimes lead to dry scalp, and also find out if an Omega 3 supplement would be right for you because that is going to be great at conditioning your hair.”
3. Consider using jojoba oil
Being the most similar oil to sebum, our natural oil, jojoba oil is a perfect go-to product when dealing with dry scalp. All you have to do is heat the oil a little bit, and massage your scalp for about 30 minutes before washing your hair. Repeat the procedure every week or at least once per month.
When asked about what she would like to say to people struggling with acne, she said:
I read this and it went straight to my soul because I know what it’s like to be affected by acne and I also know what it’s like to be affected by it as an adult when you have to go to job interviews or be on camera and expose yourself to people.
However, she gave us a light at the end of the tunnel, saying:
But, what I would say to somebody dealing with acne right now is have faith, it can be cured. Or, if you’re somebody like me for example that truly has very bad acne skin, it can be manageable and I am proof of that and I share all my tips and tricks with you guys, always. Acne does not define you, it doesn’t make you any less pretty even though you may feel like it does. Reality is, it doesn’t.
So hydrate, moisturize, keep your skin clean, try not to pick, eat a low inflammatory diet, cut down on the dairy, talk to a dermatologist, and just work on your self-confidence.
We all have heard of the quote “Find your happiness by letting go of your fears.” Well, as Alexandra states, there isn’t a uniform step-by-step advice for everything in life, so you have to create your own path through which you will find happiness and let go of everything that is hindering it. Alexandra did it, and she wants to share it with all of us.
So, instead of old clichés we have heard, we can see a very genuine person here, who is eager to share her truest self and such empowering messages through her content, while also letting her followers find what’s the best for them.
What Alexandra is also teaching us, is to be patient, as things take time. So, what we have to do is believe in ourselves and the results we will later yield.
More than a glowy skin, a blemish and acne-free face, and a perfect makeup, YOURSELF is what really defines you. So, along with our acne, dry scalp, oily skin, or stretch marks, let’s work on our self-confidence and self-esteem because what you look on the inside is what will reflect on the outside.
Let Alexandra be an inspiration to us all!
