While the Spice Girls fans from all around the world are patiently waiting for their reunion, one of the members is causing a confusing a stir on social media.
Melanie Janine Brown aka Mel B, the most fierce member of the Spice Girls, is also a modern icon of girl power, and a formidable judge on several talent shows.
However, recently she posted a picture on Instagram and that caused confusion and made some people stop and ponder.
This article first appeared on Unilad.
The 42-year-old singer posted a picture of herself wearing a two-piece bikini and a pair of sky-high red heels which showed off her super toned body. Posing before an iconic Spice-ish background of leopard prints and platform trainers, Mel was taking us back to the 90s.
Mel captioned the photo, describing the lavish ensemble as her ‘Spice Shrine’:
“Yes this is my spice shrine yes I’m in a bikini yes I’m 42 and yes all my bling is @icelinkofficial #nowornever #loveyourbody #noyourworth #standproud #spicememories #powerof5”
And, yet the focus wasn’t on her absolutely gorgeous and toned body or even on the Spice Girl’s nostalgia, but on the color of her skin. People felt like her skin color in the picture appeared much lighter than usual.
Of course, some fans couldn’t resist but insisted that she has had her skin bleached so she can have a lighter shade. Some even described her as ‘self-hating’ and a ‘sell out.’
One person wrote: “Bleached up your skin, and disrespected the very melanin thats making you look so young. Sad foolishness.”
“Wtf – have you really bleached your skin? Why would you do that when you have mixed children?” asked another.
There were many people that reminded the others that criticizing other people’s appearances really isn’t part of the official girl power code:
“Think about how it feels to be in her shoes maybe. I know Mel isn’t insecure but every woman gets that way sometimes. She posts a photo feeling good in her bikini and it looks smoking hot. She gets on her phone and there are tons of comments that are picking on her because her skin looks lighter.
Yes there are ones that say how good she looks and more of those than bad. But how would that feel to get on her and just have people constantly putting you down about something? Think about that.”
The 42-year-old singer stepped down from her Union Jack throne and said: “Yes and I do need a tan.”
