Student Stuns Everyone By Making Her Own Hand-Painted Graduation Dress

Taking artwork to the next level!

A student from the Philippines made her own graduation dress and it’s so stunning, it has since gone viral.

Ciara Gan just graduated from high school and instead of buying something for the event, she and her mom decided to put together a unique dress that for sure will be remembered for a long time.

The dress which featured pleats and hand-painted flowers is now making the rounds on the internet, and it’s safe to say the 17-year-old was hailed the queen of the ball.

Ciara told BuzzFeed News that it was her mom who inspired and pushed her to make the dress.

The student who is fond of science and art explained how she likes to try new things and decided to challenge herself by making her own graduation dress with only a month away from the event.

The 17-year-old said that it was her last “big event for school and I had about a month of graduation practices, so I’d be able to focus more on making my gown without worrying about schoolwork.”

At first, she hired someone to make the design of the dress, however, she didn’t like the result and decided to do it all herself, of course, with the help of her mom.

They bought 13 yards of fabric, crinoline, boning, and Swarovski crystals, and together they “sewed each panel of the skirt one by one,” the student revealed.

She also explained that it took about five days to paint the flowers and that she decided to use orange colors after recently rereading the book “Tiger Lily” by Jodi Lynn Anderson.

I strayed away from basic roses and dainty florals because although they’re pretty, they don’t reflect my personality. I love the vibrancy of loud colors like orange and green — they speak more about who I am.

But the orange flowers are not the only thing which reflects her personality, as Ciara made sure the overall design of the dress to reflect her personality as well.

My inspiration for the design are the things that make me happy. As nerdy as it may sound, I chose emerald green because I’m an avid Potterhead and a proud Slytherin.

She then explained that it took one month to make the dress and that she kept it a secret from her classmates.

The tweeted pictures of the dress have amassed more than 380,000 likes.
