The Big Bang Theory will wrap up its 12th and final season very soon, and we’re still processing this.
The sitcom will come to an end on May 16 and is making history as the longest-running American multi-camera sitcom, with its 276 episodes. CBS’s comedy outran “Cheers” which previously held the title with 275 episodes.
Kunal Nayyar, who plays Rajesh Ramayan Koothrappali in the show, shared the happy news on Instagram along with a picture of the script, with the caption:
And there you have it… this script officially makes us the longest running sitcom in the history of television, just surpassing the show Cheers. So cheers to that:) lil Delhi boy, making history.
The actor went on and thanked fans for supporting them over the last 12 years, adding it’s a “dream come true.”
What a dream come true. Thank you for your kindness over these past 12 years, there are no words in any language that could ever express the love I have for all of you… so, from my heart to yours, I love you.
Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny on the show, also shared the news along with a picture of the cast and crew, adding she was “blessed, humbled, amazed, grateful.” The 33-year-old expressed her gratitude to all viewers in her post, who made it possible for the show to go on for 12 years.
Episode 276 will air in May, but it’s not the final one.
Previously, Cuoco spoke to E! News saying that the show is “going out with a bang.”
I’m glad we’re going out with a bang. I hate saying that, but it’s kinda true. We wanted to go out on top.”
The show airs on Thursdays on CBS, while the one-hour finale will be on Thursday, May 16.
