There was a The Sopranos reunion and I can’t contain my excitement!
20 years after it first aired, the cast reunited at a special event to celebrate the show at SVA Theatre in New York, and reminisce about their time on the crime drama. The event was called Woke Up This Morning: The Sopranos 20th Anniversary Celebration.
Many of the show’s stars were in attendance, like Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Michael Imperioli, Robert Iler, Tony Sirico, Dominic Chianese, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Annabelle Sciorra, John Ventimiglia, Steven Van Zandt, and Vincent Curatola.
How we’ve missed them!
However, it was a bittersweet reunion as there was one very important person missing that night – the late James Gandolfini – who portrayed Tony Soprano, the lead character and head of the crime family.
Gandolfini tragically died in 2013 after suffering from a heart attack while in Italy, and on the event was represented by his 19-year-old son, Michael.
The American crime drama series first aired on 10 January 1999 and ran for six series before ending in 2007, with a total of 86 episodes. Now, the cast got together for a special 20th anniversary.
Many people refer to The Sopranos as the best drama series ever.
The show tells the story of an Italian-American mobster who struggles to deal with the pressure of trying to balance his family life, as well as with his role as the head of a major criminal organization.
On the series, we see Tony Soprano as he slowly works out his problems, opening up to therapist Dr. Melfi about his family life, childhood, and most importantly, his crime life.
Shortly after it started airing, the critics were speaking highly of the show, and New York Times even considered it as “the greatest work of American popular culture of the last quarter century.”
The bittersweet reunion saw the cast and creator, David Chase, give candid interviews, where the latter also spoke about the show’s finale, including his new commemorative book, The Sopranos Sessions.
According to the rumors, the creator of the show is now working on a movie, The Many Saints of Newark, which revolves around Tony Soprano’s childhood.
