Not that this might arouse interest in you (I know it will), but the thriller-science fiction, Venom 2 is officially happening!! The good news has been confirmed by screenwriter Jeff Pinkner, co-writer of Venom.
In the recent interview for Discussing Film, Pinkner talked about Venom’s huge success. The movie is considered as one of the highest grossing films of the year, raking in over $850 million worldwide at the Box Office. When he was asked about Venom 2, Pinkner did confirm that a sequel of the movie is actually happening, while trying not to spill any detail about potential plot lines. He said:
I can’t say anything other than that it is happening.
However, the interviewer did not let this pass without showering him with following questions about the sequel. He asked Jeff about the expectations the audience should have from the new movie.
Having in mind the close relation between Venom and Spider-Man, Jeff was also asked whether Peter Parker could make an appearance in any future release. I mean, who’s to say that Spider-Man can’t exist in the Venom universe? The screenwriter thinks everyone would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie. He responded the question saying:
Without revealing anything that I’m not supposed to reveal, it is not impossible a future, slash upcoming Venom movie Spider-Man will play a significant role… I think it’s fair to say that everyone involved would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie.
Given that Venom has achieved a great success, Sony would surely be willing to include Spidey in the sequel. However, having said all these, nobody at Sony or people related to Venom 2 has confirmed this as a possibility, apart from Jeff Pinkner.
Answering a follow-up question, Pinkner also revealed that he will not write the sequel, even though he didn’t reveal who is on deck for that task.
Let’s wait and see what ‘Venom 2’ has in store!
