The Vicks VapoRub has been around for a long time and it’s a versatile cure-all that you probably have in your medicine cabinet. Its main ingredients are camphor, menthol, and eucalyptus and the most common use of the mentholated topical ointment is to decongest your chest and throat area, but there are a lot of untraditional uses you might not know about. Here are some of them, courtesy of Tiphero.
You’ll be surprised to learn that Vicks might help you get rid of that excruciating sinus headache.
1. Pimple buster
You can easily get rid of a stubborn pimple by applying some VapoRub on it, because of it’s antiseptic and skin healing properties.
Sinus headaches are especially painful, so for a relief, you can rub some Vicks under your nose and open the clogged passageways. For other types of headaches, rub a small amount of Vicks on your temples and forehead and it will relive the pressure of the headache.
3. Nail fungus
If you suspect you have a fungus rub some Vicks on the nail. Within days, the nail will turn dark, which means that the Vicks is killing the fungus.
4. Stretch marks/cellulite
This one might be difficult to believe, but a lot of people are swearing that rubbing Vaporub topical ointment on your cellulite and stretch marks will do wonders.
5. Itch and sting relief
For poison ivy, bee stings and mosquito bites use Vicks. The strong odor is going to help get the critter to release itself and stop bugging you.
6. Dry feet
If your feet are dry you can apply some Vicks on them, wear cotton socks overnight and wash the salve off in the morning using warm water.
When you are feeling nauseous, rubbing some Vicks under your nose might calm down your tummy.
Some elements in Vicks, such as Camphor might soothe and heal minor burns.
9. Creaky doors
If you don’t have WD40, you can use Vicks to get rid of that annoying squeaky sound your door is making.
10. Shower bombs
For easing congestion you can use homemade vaporizing bath bombs. Just put them on the shower floor and allow the hot water to melt them into a vapory steam.
There are constituents in the Vicks that help in blood circulation making the bruises heal faster. Just apply a little bit of the ointment onto a bruise to aid in healing.
