eyes

Dark circles under the eyes are one of the most common problems we have to deal with on a daily basis. They make us look older and tired, and feel less pretty. While this may not be much of an issue for the men, for us girls it’s a complete nightmare.

The reasons why the dark circles appear are numerous. Stress, overworking, fatigue, and sleep deprivation are a few of the usual ones. But the cause could also be in your genes.

Whatever the reason, we don’t like the sight of them and would very much want to get rid of them for good. That’s why we will show you how to make the circles under your eyes disappear, thanks to this list compiled by Tapoos.

1. You’re beautiful!

The methods on this list do contribute towards lessening the appearance of dark circles under your eyes. But every person is completely different. So there is a chance that what works for everyone else won’t do the job for you. In that case, the culprit is usually genetics. In other cases it might be pigmentation issues, overexposure of the sun, facial structure, or even hormones. Just remember that you’re beautiful just the way you are, and learn to accept yourself with all your strengths and flaws.

2. Cosmetic solutions

If you have tried everything without positive results, you can go for cosmetics. First things first: do a skin patch test. You don’t want to have an allergic reaction, so finding out which products are suitable for you is of the utmost importance.

Dark circles can be caused by vitamin K and retinol deficiency, so start using an eye cream that contains these two compounds. It should reduce the puffiness and bring back the color to your skin. A long term use is recommended.

Another cosmetic products you can use is concealer. Get a peach or orange-tinted one and apply it in an upside-down triangle shape under your eyes. Use your ring finger to spread it around and make sure you extend it all the way to your cheekbones. Apply some foundation over it, and you’re done!

3. Use natural remedies

Cucumber slices can reduce puffiness and refresh your skin. Lie down and place a slice on each eye. Rest for 10-15 minutes with your eyes closed. It’s even better if the cucumber is cool, as it will serve to cool your eyes as well.

Another method is to use tea bags and ice. Wrap them in a cloth and place them over your eyes the same as with the cucumber slices. The tea bags can help reduce the swelling and discoloration.

Method number three involves the preparation of a saline solution. Add a quarter teaspoon of salt and/or a half teaspoon of baking soda in some water. Tilt your head backward and pour the mixture down one nostril. It will come right out through the other nostril getting rid of your nasal congestion on the way.

Next up is the potato method. Put an uncooked potato into a liquidizer. Place the stuff over your eyelids, and after 30 minutes use warm water to clean it off. You can also use a frozen spoon placed on your eyes.

Yet another useful agent in reducing dark circles is almond oil, which contains vitamin E. All of these remedies can reduce your levels of stress and improve your lifestyle if used together with exercise and meditation.

5. Stop smoking

How many times have you heard that smoking is bad for you? Here you go one more time: stop smoking. It causes lasting damage to your body and it threatens your life. But if the fact that it may kill you isn’t enough to convince you, here is another reason why you should give it up: it causes vascular issues that can make your blood vessels appear bluer.

6. Take care of your diet

A proper diet can go a long way towards a healthy lifestyle. Make sure your diet is balanced and includes vitamins, minerals, and plenty of water. This can help prevent many cosmetic issues.

Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, especially cabbage, spinach and other leafy greens. Reduce the amount of salt you consume; it can cause puffiness, the retention of water under the eyes, and it can also hinder blood circulation.

7. Try dealing with your allergies

The chances for you to develop dark circles under your eyes can be increased by allergies, which cause skin discoloration. Stay away from foods and chemicals you’re allergic to, and consult your physician on what medicines you should use to treat this condition. Allergies can also cause vitamin deficiencies, but you can counter that by using multivitamins.

Another cause for dark circles can be gluten intolerance. That’s an allergy to wheat, barley, and rye. Have your blood analyzed to test for celiac disease.

Nasal congestion can be another factor that can contribute to this problem. You can deal with a blocked nose with a nasal spray or a neti pot. If the congestion is due to sinus problems, consult your doctor as to the potential need for antibiotics.

8. Beauty sleep

One very important thing when it comes to getting rid of this nasty problem is sleep. Sleep deprivation makes the skin paler and brings out the dark circles under your eyes. Try to get a full-night’s sleep every night. For some people that could mean 8-9 hours, for others 7. Find out what works best for you.

The quality of your sleep can be affected by your consumption of alcohol and drugs, which leads to a lessened absorption rate of B6, causing a decreased adrenal gland function. Reduce your intake of alcohol and drugs and start consuming more vitamins.

Basically, sleep more and eat more healthy foodstuffs. This should get rid of most of your health problems.

9. Acceptance

The first step in dealing with any issue is to accept its existence. So, accept the fact that you have dark circles under your eyes and you’re already off to a positive start in trying to remedy the situation. This way you’re face-to-face with the problem and you’re motivated to find a solution. If you don’t know where to begin, the best way to start is to make sure you get enough sleep.
