Marketing Experts From 18 Countries Photoshop A Woman Acording To Local Beauty Standards

In order to explore the relativity of beauty, a UK company, Superdrug Online Doctors, decided to enlist the help of marketing experts from around the world by asking them to edit a photo of an ‘average’ woman in order to make her more attractive according to what would be considered attractive in their respective countries.

The project called “Perceptions Of Perfection” features 18 images of the same woman photoshopped to reflect the beauty standards around the world.

“Widely held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men,” Superdrug Online Doctors said in a press release.

“The goal of this project is to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.”

Let’s see how marketing experts from around the world changed the original into a woman they would put in one of their campaigns

The Argentines have reduced the woman’s figure to make her seem more petite

Just like Argentina, South Africans have made the body smaller, and lightened up the skin

In Venezuela hair is extremely important and the hairstyle is the only dramatic change visible

The Spaniards have slimmed down the girl, but only slightly, while the skin has been darkened to give her a more Mediterranean look

America gave her a thigh gap, thinned her out in some places, while making sure she kept her curves in others

In China, they seem to have decided they wanted a different person altogether

Just like in neighboring Venezuela, Colombians find hair crucial to a woman’s looks as well

Filipinos like a woman with smaller hips; other than that, the proportions are roughly the same

The Dutch added red hair and changed the attire to a bikini and a pair of boots

In Peru, the upper body was thinned out, while the legs stayed close to the original

In the Syrian version, the model is smaller and slightly darker in skin tone

Big hair, darker skin, skinny legs and wide hips is what they went with in Egypt

Romanians only went for a thigh gap and not much else

Just like China, the Italians seem to have gone for a completely different body type

Ukraine went for a smaller frame and a lot of the color red

In Mexico the model was darkened in both hair and skin tone, as well as made tinier

The UK marketing experts changed the legs and proportions quite a bit

The Serbians chose a slimmer girl and completely different makeup
